Analizziamo insieme le caratteristiche principali di questo mazzo e scopriamone i punti deboli e i punti di forza.
Sono bastati i risultati positivi nei PTQ a lanciare l'idea di un mazzo Grow competitivo nell'arena T1 dove il monoblue era in decadenza e stava nascendo il TnT. Allora si trattava di un miracle grow con base bianca per molto removal e l'idea di inserire lo Psychatog come creatura di supporto non era stata ancora valutata.
Il concetto del Gro-A-Tog (GAT) è rimasto da allora invariato: giocare la driade ed ingrossarla con le magie di manipolazione e counter fino ad arrivare al berserk ed attaccare con un mostro travolgente.
Per questo motivo viene definito un mazzo aggro-control che è la peggiore bestia da combattere.

Questa lista l'ho presa da un torneo svoltosi a Dülmen ed è una delle tante versioni proposte fino adesso, vediamo comunque i tratti principali che sono in comune ad ogni versione.
1) La combo Fastbond - Gush - Yawgmoth's Will è semplicemente BROKEN e significa in tutti i casi vittoria!
2) Bisogna cercare di giocare una driade il prima possibile e successivamente un atog, quando questa configurazione sta a terra c'è poco da fare per l'avversario.
3) Counter/manipolazione: abbiamo già parlato di Gush che avvia il motore, se poi si pesca fastbond è già gameover. Brainstorm permette di pescare 3 e di posare in cima 2 carte poco utili (ad esempio una Yawgomoth's Will pescata troppo presto), il trucco è quello di usare una fetchland per rimescolare il mazzo ed evitare di ripescare le 2 carte appena posate. Le Force of Will sono essenziali, le Misdirection tengono a bada gli Hymn to Tourach, sono importanti in una guerra di counter, deviano gli spari di uno sligh.
Sleight of hand garantisce una qualità di pescaggio superiore a Opt giocato nelle prime versioni in risposta a delle Wasteland.
I Duress assolvono anche loro il compito di controllo e tutti assieme pompano la driade.
Il Cunning Wish è fondamentale per la ricerca del Berserk in primo luogo e per gli istantanei nel side da usare nel momento giusto. È bellissimo avere la comodità di cercare la carta giusta al momento giusto!!!
Il Merchant Scroll chiama al 99% dei casi Ancestral Recall ma non è infrequente vedere un Gush per avviare il motore!!!
Si può discutere sull'utilizzo dei Daze, forse 2 solamente non contribuiscono molto alla causa e forse dovrebbero fare spazio a dei normali Counterspell
4) Mana: vengono usati solo i mox dei colori del mazzo e 5 fetchlands come cosa da mettere in rilievo. La Library è un'arma in più da usare contro i mazzi control, ed il trucco più frequente è usare un tutore demoniaco o un vampirico per giocarla.
Come si comporta contro gli altri archetipi:
I matchup migliori li ha contro lo Sligh e combo: lo sligh puo' essere bloccato dai tog e gli spari counterati o deviati, contro il combo bisogna calare una driade al più presto e counterare le magie DRAW7 e il gioco è fatto.
TnT anche non offre grande resistenza, forse un maggiore odio maindeck con Blood Moon potrebbe aiutare.
Il Keeper è un mazzo rognoso da combattere possiede counter magie contro le creature e cunning wish per ottenerle.
Il black discard lo mette in seria difficoltà , ma il mazzo sa anche essere molto esplosivo con poche carte.
Il mio mask/naught basato sulla combo Illusionary Mask e Phyrexian Dreadnought ha eccellenti chances di vittoria.
Lo stacker2 già trattato in un articolo precedente è la bestia nera del mazzo.
Nel prossimo articolo vedremo come il metagame ha mutato la filosofia di questo mazzo rendendolo ancora più control !!!
